ConferenceRegistration ***** **New** Letter to Conference Registrants October 9, 2006 Dear Conference Registrants: Thank you all for participating in the Third International Conference of the Society for the Study of American Women Writer, which will be held at the Sheraton Society Hill in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from November 8-11, 2006. This email is to give you some information about the upcoming conference and to confirm your registration. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to send individual acknowledgments by mail to conference registrants. That is, if you receive this e-mail, you can rest assured that your registration and check were received. First of all, we have had an unexpectedly large number of people making reservations at the conference hotel, and at the moment it appears the hotel is sold out (though it’s always worth checking to pick up on cancellations). If you haven’t yet booked your room, you might want to try the Holiday Inn at Independence Hall (1-800-HOLIDAY), which is offering rates comparable to those at the Sheraton, and also the Omni at 4th and Chestnut (215-925-0000). Both hotels are within walking distance of the Sheraton. I also wanted to give you some information about how to get to the Sheraton Society Hill. Driving directions are pasted below. For those of you who will be flying into Philadelphia International Airport, there is a shuttle available that for $8 (one-way) will take you the roughly 30-minute trip to the hotel. The service is Lady Liberty and it leaves the airport every 30 minutes (between 5 a.m. and midnight). You can find it by going to the ground transportation desk in the baggage claim area of the airport. In fact, you can pick up a phone there and dial 27 to reach the shuttle service. Their number, otherwise, is (215) 724-8888. I know some of you have wondered about getting a receipt for the conference registration fee—and I wanted to let all of you know that you will get a packet, when you check in at the conference registration desk at the hotel, that will contain a receipt, along with the conference program and your name-tag. I also wanted to let you all know that it’s not too late to sign up for the roundtable breakfast on Friday morning. We have an exciting array of topics that are now listed on the conference program (it’s session #37). If you would like, belatedly, to register for the breakfast, please send a check for $15 to Melissa Homestead at Department of English, University of Nebraska, 202 Andrews Hall, P.O. Box 88033, ATTN: SSAWW, Lincoln NE 68588-0333, and indicate to her what the check is for. Lastly, there is a very recent draft of the conference up on the conference website so I encourage you to take a look. You’ll find it at–http://www.lehigh.edu/~dek7/SSAWW/conferences.htm. Or go to the “Conferences” page at http://www.ssaww.org. The officers of the SSAWW are all looking forward to meeting you at the conference and we thank you for being a part of what looks to be a great event. We hope to see you at 5 p.m. on Wednesday the 8th at the opening reception! Sincerely, DIRECTION TO THE SHERATON SOCIETY HILL HOTEL AIRPLANE: 30th STREET STATION: ***** If you are participating in the conference, you will need to be a member of the SSAWW by July 4, 2006.
