American Multicultural Literature (St. Catherine University)

The Department of English in the Women’s College at St. Catherine University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in American Multicultural Literature to begin Fall 2016, pending budget approval. Rank and salary commensurate with education and experience. We seek candidates to teach and develop courses for both English majors and non-majors at the introductory and advanced levels. In addition to teaching American Multicultural Literature in its global contexts, the successful candidate will also bring experience in film, media, and cultural studies and in interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary pedagogies and practices, and a proven ability to work with our Critical Studies of Race and Ethnicity and Women’s Studies programs, to publish scholarship related to these areas of expertise, and to participate in the college’s Catherine Core curriculum. Other helpful secondary interests include composition theory, performance, sociolinguistics, professional and business writing.

St. Catherine University in St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a comprehensive Catholic university and home to one of the nation’s largest college for women, and associate and graduate programs for both women and men. Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1905, the University integrates liberal arts and professional education within the Catholic traditions of intellectual inquiry and social teaching. Responsibilities: Duties include teaching three courses each semester, with opportunities to teach in summer and in local and international programs during our January term; advising and mentoring students, including opportunities for collaborative research with undergraduates and for teaching interdisciplinary courses; pursuing scholarship and publication; and contributing to department, college, and university service.

Requirements: A Ph.D. in English or related area, earned by September 2016, is required. College teaching experience, proven expertise in American multicultural literature, with attention to global contexts, secondary interest in film, media, and cultural studies and in interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary pedagogies and practices and a commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education are all required. Commitment to including social justice in teaching and advising, the ability to teach composition at various levels, experience in teaching or willingness to learn hybrid and fully on-line platforms and interest in any of the following: performance, composition theory, sociolinguistics, professional and business writing are preferred qualifications.
