Chatham invites applications for an Assistant Professor of English (American Literature + Creative Writing) beginning August 15, 2015. Primary responsibilities will be in the undergraduate and BFA/MFA programs in English and American Literature. We are especially interested in candidates with the promise of excellence in teaching and publication who can also contribute to the University’s Mission initiatives: Global Awareness, Engagement and Responsibility, and Sustainability & the Environment.

Now fully coed, Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA, has over 2,100 students in the School of Health Sciences; the Falk School of Sustainability; and the School of Arts, Science and Business. Chatham is the alma mater of environmental icon Rachel Carson, and is recognized as a leader in the field of sustainability, having been named to Sierra magazines list of top 20 cool schools and mentioned in Forbes as one of the places contributing to Pittsburghs transformation into a destination for green living. Building on these accomplishments, Chatham opened the worlds first fully sustainable campus in higher education, Eden Hall Campus, in 2014. Consistently ranked as a best college by “U.S. News & World Reports”, Chatham earned the highest ranking among western Pennsylvania institutions in the Regional Universities North category for 2014-2015.

The successful candidate will have a 3-3 teaching load with expectations in scholarship, advising, and departmental, college, and university service. Teaching includes First-Year Seminar, American Literature surveys, upper-level seminars, BFA Creative Writing classes, and an MFA graduate class. Advising, mentoring, and directing undergraduate and graduate theses required. Chatham prides itself on its strong faculty and commitment to diversity and inclusion. This is a 9-month renewable-term appointment and salary is commensurate with qualifications.

A Ph.D. in literature is required.
