Call: Since its reemergence in the late 1990s, The Female American; or, The Adventures of Unca Eliza Winkfield has received increasing critical and academic attention. As we approach twenty years of contemporary awareness of this novel, this call for proposals asks us to take stock of the position of this novel in conversation with historical constructions of literal/figurative space, place, home (of the period of the novel’s presumed creation or the period of the novel’s setting). Topics to be addressed may include (among others) ways in which this transatlantic novel fashions/responds to liminality, hybridity, borders, geo-politics, and peripheries, including comparative analyses in concert with relevant works from varied genres and disciplines. Literary, transdisciplinary, pedagogical, or other frameworks are welcomed, as we look ahead to what we still may wish to discover/posit regarding this novel. Please submit proposals of 250-‐300 words to email@example.com by February 11, 2015.
