The Department of English and Humanities at Shawnee State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in American Literature and Composition beginning August, 2015. Shawnee State University is the regional state university for South-Central Ohio. It is a primarily undergraduate, four-year public university with limited graduate degree programs. Enrollment is approximately 4,400 students. Shawnee State is located on the Ohio River in Portsmouth, Ohio – a small city nestled in a beautiful, rural area of Southern Ohio. The successful candidate will be expected to regularly teach both composition courses and American literature courses; teach childrens and/or adolescent/young adult literature courses; and demonstrate teaching effectiveness and the potential for scholarly activity in American literature and/or composition. Additional responsibilities include serving on departmental and/or university committees and advising students.
Ph.D. in English with specialization in American literature and/or adolescent/young adult literature
A.B.D. candidates with a firm completion date by August 2015 will be considered
three years teaching experience at the college level
teaching American poetry
working in writing centers
working in an open-admissions educational setting
