Literature: The Department of Literature within the Division of Arts & Humanities at the University of California, San Diego ( seeks candidates specializing in Asian American literature and culture whose research, teaching, and service demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education. We are interested in candidates whose methodological approaches and research may demonstrate expertise in gender and sexuality studies, cultural studies, 20th century U.S. literature and culture, materialist approaches (corporeal and economic), theories of migration and diaspora. Ability to teach courses ranging from broad undergraduate surveys of Asian American literature and culture to more specialized upper-division courses to graduate seminars is desirable. As a department of world literature we welcome research interests in transatlantic and transpacific literary studies, minority discourse, and the culture of empire. We welcome applications at every level of the assistant professor rank. The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. We seek candidates who have demonstrated the highest standards of scholarly research and professional activity and who will actively participate in our department’s multilingual, transnational projects. Successful candidates will have strong, demonstrated accomplishments or concrete plans in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.
